When a coach says “Wait until next year”, it is usually has the
sentiment of regret for goals not realized during the past season, but this
phrase best describes the excitement and anticipation the coaching staff has of
having one of the best young wrestling teams returning in Section I. The
2003-2004 Rams wrestling team went a respectable 8-7 and
took 3rd place at the R.C.P.S.A.L. and Divisional Tournaments
all while starting two 8th graders, three 9th graders, two
10th graders, and three 11th graders. They also placed a
school-record 9 individual wrestlers in the Divisional Tournament. With just
three seniors graduating, this young Rams squad will turn many heads next year
as they continue to improve with each passing season.
Leading the Rams was captain Brad Kantrowitz. Brad went undefeated in
dual meets while posting a 26-4 record and won four tournaments, including the
R.C.P.S.A.L. championship and the Divisional crown. Senior Marc Nadboy won his
first tournament title, placed in the top four in four other tournaments, and
earned All-League and honorable mention All-County honors. Freshman Nick Sanchez
was thrust into the varsity line-up and immediately responded by taking 4th
in the Pearl River Tournament, 3rd in the R.C.P.S.A.L. Tournament,
and 4th in the Divisions. Freshman Nick Cifuni earned All-League
honors and once again logged an impressive number of matches wrestled while
being in the top four in team points earned and most pins. And Senior Evan
Sasson capped off his wrestling career by being named All-League , winning the
R.C.P.S.A.L. crown, placing 3rd in the Divisional Tournament, and
wrestling from his unseeded position to earn All-Section honors by placing 4th
in the post-season sectional tournament.
The Rams wrestling team would like to thank: ·
Todd for his time,
patience, and expertise. And thank you for being someone I can talk for the good
times and the bad. ·
Sharon for coordinating
and arranging our schedule without a hitch. I owe you many thanks for all that
you do. ·
Fred Bruntrager for his
support in our efforts to help us reach our goals. ·
Tess Ryan who has been
everything a coach could ever ask for in an athletic director. WELCOME to the
Rams family!! ·
The parents who sacrifice
their time and many weekends to support their sons. We could never do what we do
without your continued support. I
would also like to thank volunteer coaches Vinny DiGiacomo and Anthony Cifuni
for putting in so much of their time to help our wrestlers reach their goals. I
never take for granted the guidance and support you give to our program. And to
Mike Ondich, my words of thanks could never convey what you have meant to me and
the program at North High School. I know how fortunate I am to have you coaching
with me. Lastly, I want to wish seniors Marc Nadboy, Evan Sasson, and Jason Zerega all the best as they head off to college. My hope is that you can take with you the lessons learned in the wrestling room regarding work ethic and responsibility and apply it to your future lives. Good luck!! |
